Kate Mulvany discusses adapting Jasper Jones for the stage in Elissa Blake's article, "Kate Mulvany on why she turned to readers when adapting Craig Silvey's Jasper Jones," in the Sydney Morning Herald. An extract from the article:

Silvey [...] gave Mulvany a free hand when it came to expanding on some of the supporting characters he had written. "There were moments in the book where I wanted to delve deeper, especially with the female characters and their journeys," Mulvany says. "Craig agreed that maybe he hadn't gone deep enough, so he allowed me to go for it. It's important to me that people know they are getting Craig's book and also a Kate Mulvany play."

The article also includes a mini Q&A with Craig Silvey. (Archive 1, archive 2.)

Read the Wheeler Centre's interview, “Craig Silvey on Adapting Jasper Jones" (archive 1, archive 2). Here's an extract:

[Interviewer:] This will be the third theatre production of Jasper Jones and there’s also a film production in the works. Have you struggled at any point to entrust your work to different people? What have you learned along the way?

[Craig Silvey:] One of the most important things I have learned as a writer is that once your novel hits the shelf, it’s not yours anymore. It’s a public object. By lending a book their time and imagination, a reader earns the right to make it their own. I’m not precious about the diversity of interpretations people bring to the book, it’s something I celebrate. So an extension of that is this remarkable opportunity to have the novel produced by three separate companies, in vastly different ways. It makes me so proud and excited, there’s no room to feel cautious.
